King & The Bear, named respectively for its co-designers Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus, opened in 2000 with a ceremonial exhibition between its namesakes. This, 7,279-yard course is the first-and-only course design collaboration between these two golf greats, whose careers have been enhanced by their friendship and competition. The pair set out to create a playable and picturesque course with memorable par 5’s amid lakes, loblolly pines and 200-year-old live oaks.
At The King & The Bear @ The World Golf Village, Arnold Palmer and Jack Nicklaus have created a remarkable blend of the past, present, and future of the game of golf. From the rustic Irish landmark fencing to the historic stone replica of the St. Augustine Lighthouse, these two great golf legends have created a special link between the roots of golf and the oldest city in the United States.
The King & The Bear course blends two distinct styles: the front 9 has a more open “linksy” feel, while the back nine is more traditional and tree lined. |
