Longleaf Golf and Country Club was originally built on the site of Starland Farms, a former thoroughbred horse farm, in 1988. This semi-private Club has been called “The most playable course in Pinehurst.” by Golf Digest.
Third generation golf course architect Dan Maples designed Longleaf so that it presented golfers two very different and distinctive nines.
Many of the original race farm features -- the white fences, rail post and hedgerows -- have been carefully retained as a tribute to the original site. Among the horses trained at Starland Farm was the winner of the 1983 Preakness, Deputed Testimony and Jean Baptiste, winner of the 1955 Albany Stakes at Belmont Park and ran in the 1956 Kentucky Derby. |
